About the piece
The Island Window
The blues in insular manuscripts did not come from anywhere near here. Analysis of the great gospel books keeps turning up pigments that travelled the length of Europe and beyond to reach a scriptorium on the Atlantic. A monk on an island at the edge of the known world was painting with the contents of a trade route.
The Island Window frames a view outward from a place that was far less isolated than it looks.
