The Doorway
The monastic boundary carried legal force. Inside the termon, a man being hunted could not be taken, and violence there cost the offender heavily under Irish law. The wall was not defensive — it was jurisdictional. Crossing it changed what could legally be done to you.
The Doorway stands at the line where one set of rules stopped and another began.
