Doire means oak grove, and it is buried in half the map — Derry, Kildare, Adare. The wood was where things were decided and where they were kept. Every other print in this collection is turned outward; this woman is not. She is imagined, and she is looking directly back at you.
Stillness in the Forest is courage as refusal rather than motion — the decision not to look away first.
