About the piece
The Sea Stack
Dún Briste stands off Downpatrick Head in Mayo, a slab of layered rock with the grass still growing on top. Tradition says the sea cut it from the mainland in a storm in 1393 and left people stranded on it, and that they were taken off by ropes. The stack is still there. So is the grass.
The Sea Stack is a piece of Ireland the Atlantic simply took, in one night, within recorded memory.
