About the piece
Mountain of Light
On the last Sunday of July, thousands of people climb Croagh Patrick, and some still do it in bare feet on scree. The mountain was being climbed for the same reasons long before Patrick's name was attached to it. Ireland changed the explanation and kept the practice.
Mountain of Light is the shape a country walks up when it wants something badly enough to suffer for it.
