The Returning Boats
Irish fishermen had words they would not say at sea. The fox, the hare, the priest, the pig — all of them unlucky to name in a boat, and each had a substitute you used instead. A whole shadow vocabulary existed for a few hours of the day, and vanished again on the pier.
The Returning Boats arrives at the point where the ordinary words come back.
