About the piece
The Golden Tide
Seaweed was money on this coast. Kelp was cut, dried and burned for the iodine and soda in its ash, carrageen was gathered for the pot, and wrack went onto the fields as the only fertiliser there was. Shore rights were fought over, because the tide going out was a harvest.
The Golden Tide lights water that people used to read as income.
