The Sun Medallion
The Celtic year was cut into quarters by fire: Imbolc at the start of February, Beltaine in May, Lughnasa in August, Samhain in November. Not solstices — the turns between them, when the work of the year actually changed. It is a calendar built by people who had to decide when to move the cattle.
The Sun Medallion holds a year measured in obligations rather than in days.
