The Open Circle

What makes the Irish cross Irish is the ring, and the ring is mostly hole. Structural engineers argue it braces the arms; everyone else notices that it frames four openings and makes you look through the monument as well as at it. The absence is doing as much work as the stone.

The Open Circle keeps the gap at the centre, where the tradition put it.
