About the piece
The Long Passage
There is a slot of stone above the door at Newgrange, separate from the entrance and easy to miss. It exists so that on a handful of mornings around the winter solstice the sunrise travels the full nineteen metres of the passage and reaches the chamber floor, for roughly seventeen minutes. Everything about the corridor — its length, its slope, its angle — was built to deliver that.
The Long Passage is not a way in. It is an instrument, and the light is what it was tuned to.
