About the piece
The Golden Cross
The Cross of Cong was made around 1123 for Turlough O'Connor, and it is mostly oak. The gilt bronze, the enamel, the animal interlace — all of it is a skin over a wooden core, and the whole object exists to hold one small fragment said to come from the True Cross. The magnificence is packaging. The point is the splinter inside.
The Golden Cross keeps that logic: a shape built to make something invisible worth looking at.
