Ireland has thousands of holy wells, and people still leave things at them. Water was where one world was thought to touch another — which is why offerings went into rivers and lakes rather than onto altars, and why the edge of the water mattered more than the water itself.
At the Water's Edge sits on the line people have been treating as a threshold for four thousand years.
